Retreat Beach is located in the community of Lyssons in the parish of St. Thomas on the south-eastern coast of the island. The beach is approximately 60 kilometres (1 hr. 20 mins) east of Kingston.
Retreat Beach is comprised of medium to coarse dark brown sand mixed with dark and white cobble stones that covers the entire length of the beach near the waters edge, this makes it difficult to walk along the beach front. The beach gently slopes towards the ssea. There is approximately 5700 square metres (1.4 acres) of potentially usable area. The beach is approximately 180 metres (600 feet) in length and 18.6 metres (62 feet) wide. The backshore is well vegetated with large and small trees as well as shrubbery. There are several sea grass beds approximately 122 m (300 ft.) offshore. A small stream traverses the western section of the beach and empties into the sea.
Retreat Bay Beach lies at the end of Marine Drive just off the main north coast roadway, A4. There is no designated parking area; however there is a grassy area by the entrance of the beach that can accommodate approximately 10 cars.
There are no amenities present on the beach.
The beach is pleasant for swimming and wading.
